Dalian Maritime University Law School in the 15th Japan-China Maritime Law Exchange

On March 9, at the invitation of Waseda University Law School in Japan, Professor chubeiping, Associate Professor Jiang Yuechuan, Professor Zhou Qinghua, PhD candiate Shi Qiang went to Waseda University to attend the "15th Japan-China Maritime Law Exchange" and made academic reports on some hot issues of Chinese law.Nearly 30 scholars from universities of Japan and practitioners from shipping, insurance and law firms of Japan participated in the seminar.

Professor Chu Peiping made a report entitled "Trend of Revision of China's Maritime Law", introducing the current progress of the revision of China's Maritime Law and several key issues.The title of Associate Professor Jiang Yuechuan's report is "the liability system of inland carriers in China". Combining with the hot topics of the "one belt and one road" initiative and the freight train between China and Europe, which are more concerned by Japanese scholars, it introduces the International Convention of Freight Transport by rail and the provisions of China's law on the liability of inland carriers.The title of Professor Zhou Qinghua's report is "Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments and Arbitral Awards in China", which introduces the legal system and practice of recognition and enforcement of foreign court judgments and arbitral awards in China's judicial practice.The report of the Chinese scholars aroused wide interest among the Japanese scholars and practitioners attending the meeting, and the two sides had in-depth interaction and exchanges.

On the occasion of this visit, the delegation also exchanged views with Japanese maritime law experts and scholars, including Professor Takashi Hakoi, Dean of Faculty of Law of Waseda University, on other hot legal issues of concern to both sides, including the revision of the Maritime Edition of the Japanese Commercial Code and the hot and difficult issues in the revision of China's Maritime Law.

"Japan-China Maritime Law Exchange" is a regular academic exchange activity jointly organized by Dalian Maritime University of China and Waseda University of Japan, which is hosted by the two universities in turn. Since the first session was held in 2009, it has been held for 15 sessions, and has become an important platform for academic exchanges and discussions between Chinese and Japanese maritime law scholars.
