Digitalization of transport documents: the law in transition

Hosted by: Dalian Maritime University, China

Date: Friday 18 October 2019

Venue: Lakeside Bookstore

Background

This is a part of the series of conferences titled “International Colloquium on Artificial Intelligence, New Technologies and the Law” hosted by DMU. It is a rare opportunity for a round table of international experts to engage in a high level discussion on the difficult and highly relevant subject of digital documentation in maritime trade. At a time in which the market is considering transitioning from traditional shipping to un-manned units, the steady development of blockchain technologies have made the circulation of e-documents more secure than ever before. The shipping market however has so far resisted the call to embrace change and the use of e-bills is still very limited. This colloquium of high calibre legal academics will look at the current issues hindering the wider adoption of electronic transport documents and identify a number of possible solutions. The purpose of the conference is that of going beyond the usual carriage-centered approach and try and put digital documents in their current broader concept as well as in their future business model.
