千里之外 见字如面——法学院学生疫情期间留学生活札记(三)

2020-04-13

To all the international students and all my families and friends,

Hi guys! This is Shudong from DMU in Nottingham. It has been 24 days since the university' s moving online and UK social distancing began.

It' s actually been hard for everyone, including me, in the UK to keep social distancing! But it also feels so safe when the applause for NHS front line workers were heard and seeing that the PM working hard despite of his illness. There are touching moments, be it through priority shopping hours for the elders and NHS workers, or online apps where volunteers are accessible for their neighbors and anyone who needs help at this time.

The one thing I was quite proud of is that I gave up the chance for home delivery on some online groceries. The UK government has a questionnaire to see that if you are the most vulnerable, which is shared with some online shopping sites, to make sure that delivery slots are readily available to those people more vulnerable. And I' m more than happy to be one of the international citizens to help cause ‘every little helps’ (slogan by Tesco) at this difficult time.

(You feel it when the spring wakes up.)

It is perfectly normal to feel depressed while being away from families and friends. But it didn’t take long for me to realize that the only next right thing I could possibly do is to take this opportunity to live every day to its best, not just for my own benefits, but also for those people who are making sacrifices. There is no doubt that it was the support from my home country, home university, and all my families and friends that plays an indispensable part in helping me to stay strong in a completely different country.

I’ d like to take this opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to my fellow Chinese people, especially people from Wuhan. There has been an inadequate and unfair judgement on what China did. But we all know deeply from our heart what we have sacrificed with decency, which surely deserves respect.

Life is difficult, especially for those still being at work. It is heart breaking to see NHS workers working without PPE. There are more and more people tested positive and more and more people dying in the UK. Hope is needed the most at this time and we know that now more than ever. Like the Queen made it in the broadcast, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.

To all international students in the UK, stay safe. And to my all families and friends, thank you for sending your love during this time. I miss you all very, very much. Anyway, I wish you all the best.

(Day day up!)

想念的心是真切的。春天的海风裹挟着带着咸味的空气,就是海边小城的味道。那些在记忆里躁动的美丽,是我人生前二十多年里最朴素的挂念。千里之外,见字如面。
