Personal Work Experience

Prior to entering into Dalian Maritime University’s Law School faculty, Max was a licensed attorney in the State of Oregon where he worked for the in-house legal department at the Port of Portland. Furthermore, prior to obtaining his law degree (J.D.) at Lewis & Clark Law School, Max worked as a chemical engineer in Canada’s oil and gas industry, where he designed electrical heat-tracing components for advanced oil recovery.

Research Areas

The core focus area of Max’s research is centered around energy law and as well as the intersections between energy law and other core legal areas such as administrative law, international law, and environmental law. His most current research has been focused on the development of China’s electric power industry, most notably, the development of market mechanisms and the process towards international market integration.
