Professor Chu Beiping, Dean of DMU Law School, and Associate Professor Zhang Jinlei attended the 5th “Oslo - Southampton - Tulane” International Maritime Law Conference in Tulane University, as invited by Maritime Law Research Center of American Tulane University, and made an official visit to Tulane Law School. This conference was jointly held by American Tulane University, Norway University of Oslo and University of Southampton in the UK, Maritime Law Center of Tulane University undertook the specific affairs. The topic of this conference is “Intermediary”. Dozens of experts and scholars coming from the USA, UK, Norway, Italy, Finland, China and other countries present at the conference.
During the conference, Professor Chu and Associate Professor Zhang made the keynote speeches entitled “Do charter party arbitration clauses bind broker?” and “The role of insurance broker during the formation of marine insurance contracts in China” respectively, which analyzed the development of intermediary in China from the perspective of charter party and marine insurance respectively. Professor Guo Ping submitted the paper entitled “NOVCC and International Freight Forwarder- from perspective of law and practice in China” together with her student Dr. Li Yingying, and Dr. Li spoke on behalf of Professor Guo.
During the visit, Dean Chu and the delegation talked with Professor David Mayer, Dean of Tulane Law School and Professor Ronald Scarice, deputy dean. Two sides will expand multi-range of international cooperation at different levels in scientific research, teachers, postgraduates, based on the exchanges and cooperation at the level of undergraduates. Dean David Mayer highly appreciated the learning ability and social ability of the exchange students from our school, who are learning at Tulane University at present. He expressed expectation that more excellent students from DMU to study in Tulane University. After the talk, Dean Chu and the delegation visited our exchange students in Tulane and had a discussion meeting together.
