On October 12, 2015, Eric Rosage, Professor of Oslo University in Norway visited DMU Law School and delivered academic lectures. Professor Eric Rosage is the director of the Scandinavian Maritime Law Research Center, the drafter of 1974 Athens Convention, also as the full participant involved in drafting of The Rotterdam Rules on behalf of the Norwegian Government. Professor Eric Rosage is a distinguished maritime law expert with global reputation.
The first seminar mainly covered Arctic Treaty and hot issues in the law of the sea, such as arctic route and considerations of route choice; Arctic Treaty (especially accident prevention and pollution prevention measures); remaining issues under the treaty; jurisdiction of coastal state. Eric also introduced and interpreted the important clauses. Finally, he presented unresolved issues, for example, areas beyond national jurisdiction.
The second lecture was paid attention to passenger liabilities under Athens Convention. Professor Eric Rosage discussed Ship owner's liability, compulsory maritime insurance, direct action against the defendant and liability limit.
The two seminars surely enhanced teachers and students’ comprehensions on the maritime law research that provide valid theory support to strengthen theoretic support and practical reference.
After the lecture, Professor Chu, Beiping, dean of DMU Law School and associate Professor Zhang, Jinlei met with Professor Eric Rosage. Professor Chu extended warm welcome to Eric Rosage. Both sides also had an in-depth discussion on international cooperation, academic exchange and training of the postgraduates.
