On October 14,2015, Du, Jianxing, lawyer of RAJAH & TANN Singapore LLP visited DMU Law School and gave a academic lecture on Documentary Letters of Credit and Commodity Finance.
Mr. Du (Prime Serjeant) is the managing partner and director of maritime affairs department of Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP. He is also the visiting professor of East China University of Political Science and Law and Dalian maritime university. Now he is appointed the member of the Singapore international arbitration center area, Singapore maritime arbitrators association, China maritime arbitration commission, Singapore arbitrators association, the arbitrators franchise association. He was granted to be a lawyer by the Supreme Court in 1994. In January 2007, he was awarded the honorary title of Prime Serjeant that is the equal of British Silk gown.
The lecture is well-prepared, as it contains the role of UCP 600, different banks and contractual relationships, the doctrine of strict compliance, the autonomy principle, fraud, dispute resolution mechanisms, bills of lading under letter of credit, use of usance letter of credit, warehouse financing – re-purchase vs pledge, fraud in commodity finance: Qingdao (case study) and enforcement of security and procedural issues. He had various ways to make lecture lively and interesting.
In the end if lecture, Professor Guo Ping gave Yu Zheng (lawyer of RAJAH & TANN Singapore Shanghai Representative Office) an award on behalf of Law School, whom was given the title of “Visiting Researcher of DMU Maritime Insurance Law Research Center”
